In this episode, I dive deep into the crucial relationship between levothyroxine—a common medication for hypothyroidism—and magnesium and iron supplements. You'll learn how taking these supplements too close to your medication can interfere with absorption, potentially leading to deficiencies. I emphasize the importance of addressing hypothyroidism holistically by focusing on gut health, nutrient-dense foods, and the right food combinations.
I also share practical tips on how to naturally boost your magnesium and iron levels through food, along with the best timing to take supplements—waiting four to six hours after levothyroxine. Additionally, I explore the impact of a diverse diet on thyroid health and your gut microbiome, encouraging you to prioritize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fermented foods while minimizing ultra-processed options.
Throughout our conversation, I highlight the significance of probiotics, prebiotics, and fiber-rich foods in supporting gut health. Managing stress, getting quality sleep, and practicing self-care are also key elements I discuss for maintaining overall well-being. By the end of this episode, I hope to inspire you to prioritize your health and never give up on your journey to wellness.Have we connected on Instagram yet? You know that feeling when you’re just not feeling right, but your lab results come back saying everything’s "normal"? Yeah, that’s frustrating, right? Well, I get into that in our chat. The problem isn’t you—it’s the scale Western medicine uses, which is really only based on the average white male American. Seriously, where does that leave the rest of us?
I also dive into some common symptoms like PCOS, psoriasis, and insomnia—not as diagnoses but as little red flags waving at us, saying, "Hey, there’s something off here!" The key is to dig deeper and figure out what’s really going on. That’s where the magic of focusing on root causes comes in, and let me tell you, understanding how nutrition, the right ratios, and supplements can work together is a game-changer for your health.
And here’s the cool part—I also talk about how Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) can be your secret weapon. It’s all about spotting those hidden imbalances and crafting a healing plan that’s totally personalized to you. Because let’s be real, one size definitely doesn’t fit all when it comes to health!Want more information on HTMA Labs? Connect with me on Instagram @getas.digest and let's talk about it! As someone living with chronic health symptoms, I've learned the importance of choosing the right oils for cooking to support my well-being. Through my journey, I've discovered that while olive oil is not suitable for high-heat cooking, canola oil and avocado oil are excellent options for deep frying, IF you really want to deep fry at home.
I've read a meta-analysis showing that canola oil can lower plasma cholesterol levels and positively influence biomarkers of disease risk, which is crucial for managing chronic health symptoms. It's essential to use pure canola oil from a single source to ensure its benefits.
Understanding gut-healthy cooking methods is a key part of my routine, especially since the smoke points of oils can impact lung and cardiovascular health. For sautéing and deep frying, I often use butter, ghee, or animal lard, which offer rich flavors and stable cooking properties. Additionally, I find baking to be a healthier alternative that aligns with my health goals.
By making informed choices about the oils I use in my cooking, I empower myself to manage my chronic health symptoms more effectively and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.
The #1 thing people tell me is...
...that they know gut health is the key to their overall health but are discouraged by their lack of practical knowledge to make a difference in their gut health.
