Ready to spill some tea? In this episode of Geta's Digest, I'm serving up the real story behind my 2024 glow-up—because healing is so much more than dropping a few pounds. Sure, I shed 14 lbs this year, but the journey wasn’t just about the scale. I’m talking mental clarity, emotional resilience, and spiritual vibes on a whole new level.
I’m pulling back the curtain on how food healed more than my gut, why starting small is always the move, and how stress (ugh) and communication can make or break relationships. Spoiler alert: my marriage got stronger thanks to therapy and Bible studies.
We’ll chat about my past struggles, why spiritual growth is the ultimate flex, and how simplifying my routines gave me life. I’m also diving into the non-linear nature of healing (hello, setbacks), the beauty standards we all deal with, and the tricky relationship between makeup and self-love.
Oh, and let’s not forget the big takeaway: you don’t have to do this alone. Whether it’s leaning into community or asking for support, healing is a team effort. Ready to align your values with your vibe? Hit play, and let’s grow together!
What you'll love in this episode:
How I balanced food, faith, and fitness to help with chronic inflammation
The truth about juggling family, health, and personal goals without losing your sanity
Why flexibility in goal-setting is the secret sauce to success
My unfiltered thoughts on beauty standards and self-perception
Real talk on the power of community in your healing journey
If you’re here for sass, substance, and a sprinkle of spirituality, this episode is your jam.

Hey there, warrior. In this deeply personal episode of Getas Digest, I sit down with the incredible Dr. Erin to unpack the tangled web connecting gut health, chronic illness, and trauma. Imagine your body as a house—each room holding pieces of your story, even the ones you’ve tried to lock away. We’re here to explore how those hidden rooms can impact your health and how to gently open the doors toward healing.
We dive into the ripples of complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), not just in your mind but in every fiber of your being. From the triggers that parenting can unveil to the fight, flight, and freeze responses, this episode is about uncovering the messages your body sends and learning to read them with compassion.
You’ll hear us reframe chronic illness not as a punishment but as a sacred signal—a protective mechanism urging you to slow down, lean in, and truly listen. I share my own journey and how somatic work, and emotional release have been lifelines, while Dr. Erin shines a light on the transformative power of community and the magic of self-discovery in healing.
The healing journey is less about having all the answers and more about trusting the wisdom your body already holds. So, grab your tea, settle in, and let’s rewrite the narrative together.
What You'll Learn in This Episode:
The powerful mind-body connection in chronic illness.
How CPTSD shapes mental and physical health.
Parenting triggers as unexpected mirrors in the healing process.
Why chronic illness can be seen as a sacred illness.
Practical steps to start your healing journey through somatic work and emotional release.
The role of community and connection in navigating trauma.

In this episode, I’m unpacking some of the deepest emotional and mental barriers I see people face with chronic illness, starting with the “emotional luggage” we carry that can make healing feel impossible. I share real examples of how people’s past experiences—like a lack of trust in their body or feeling dismissed by health professionals—can impact their journey and lead to burnout. We’ll get into why I believe nutrition isn’t just about eating “healthy” but is a targeted healing tool that, combined with a strong mindset, can bring real change. I explain how tailored, individualized care can break through the “one-size-fits-all” health advice out there and create a sense of safety and empowerment in your health journey. You’ll hear about clients who found relief through specific nutrition and mindset shifts and how we handled big life changes, like a new diagnosis or major lifestyle shift, by developing sustainable habits that last. This episode is a call to action to embrace the commitment to feel amazing in your own skin and take that first step toward lasting change. If this episode spoke to you, I invite you to our free no pressure, no strings attached 30-min Kickoff Call to see if my 6-month program is right for you.

In this episode, I dive deep into the crucial relationship between levothyroxine—a common medication for hypothyroidism—and magnesium and iron supplements. You'll learn how taking these supplements too close to your medication can interfere with absorption, potentially leading to deficiencies. I emphasize the importance of addressing hypothyroidism holistically by focusing on gut health, nutrient-dense foods, and the right food combinations.
I also share practical tips on how to naturally boost your magnesium and iron levels through food, along with the best timing to take supplements—waiting four to six hours after levothyroxine. Additionally, I explore the impact of a diverse diet on thyroid health and your gut microbiome, encouraging you to prioritize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fermented foods while minimizing ultra-processed options.
Throughout our conversation, I highlight the significance of probiotics, prebiotics, and fiber-rich foods in supporting gut health. Managing stress, getting quality sleep, and practicing self-care are also key elements I discuss for maintaining overall well-being. By the end of this episode, I hope to inspire you to prioritize your health and never give up on your journey to wellness.Have we connected on Instagram yet? You know that feeling when you’re just not feeling right, but your lab results come back saying everything’s "normal"? Yeah, that’s frustrating, right? Well, I get into that in our chat. The problem isn’t you—it’s the scale Western medicine uses, which is really only based on the average white male American. Seriously, where does that leave the rest of us?
I also dive into some common symptoms like PCOS, psoriasis, and insomnia—not as diagnoses but as little red flags waving at us, saying, "Hey, there’s something off here!" The key is to dig deeper and figure out what’s really going on. That’s where the magic of focusing on root causes comes in, and let me tell you, understanding how nutrition, the right ratios, and supplements can work together is a game-changer for your health.
And here’s the cool part—I also talk about how Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) can be your secret weapon. It’s all about spotting those hidden imbalances and crafting a healing plan that’s totally personalized to you. Because let’s be real, one size definitely doesn’t fit all when it comes to health!Want more information on HTMA Labs? As someone living with chronic health symptoms, I've learned the importance of choosing the right oils for cooking to support my well-being. Through my journey, I've discovered that while olive oil is not suitable for high-heat cooking, canola oil and avocado oil are excellent options for deep frying, IF you really want to deep fry at home.
I've read a meta-analysis showing that canola oil can lower plasma cholesterol levels and positively influence biomarkers of disease risk, which is crucial for managing chronic health symptoms. It's essential to use pure canola oil from a single source to ensure its benefits.
Understanding gut-healthy cooking methods is a key part of my routine, especially since the smoke points of oils can impact lung and cardiovascular health. For sautéing and deep frying, I often use butter, ghee, or animal lard, which offer rich flavors and stable cooking properties. Additionally, I find baking to be a healthier alternative that aligns with my health goals.
By making informed choices about the oils I use in my cooking, I empower myself to manage my chronic health symptoms more effectively and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.
